Gear metering pump is driven by a pair of meshing gears, one of which is the driving gear and the other is the passive gear, and is rotated by the driving gear. There is a small gap between the gear and the pump housing. When the gear rotates, the enclosed volume between the teeth in the suction chamber gradually disengages increases, forming a local vacuum. The liquid is sucked into the suction chamber under the pressure difference. As the gear rotates, the liquid splits into two paths and is pushed forward by the gear between the gear and the housing, and sent to the discharge chamber. In the discharge chamber, the two gears gradually mesh, and the volume decreases. The liquid between the gears is squeezed to the discharge port .
Because the machining accuracy requirements of gear metering pumps are very high, whether it is the tooth surface accuracy of the gears, or the fitting accuracy between the gears and the housing, gears and tooth tips, the rotational displacement of gear metering pumps is constant. In other words, the volume of liquid discharged is constant for each rotation of the gears.
